Teenage robber beaten off with handbag

A teenage robber who held a knife to a woman’s throat was ‘handbagged’ by his quick-thinking victim before running away.

The victim was walking along a path in the Manor Park area of Lurgan on Saturday night.

She was approached by a male teenager who threatened her with the knife and demanded her handbag.

He pulled at it, breaking the strap and stumbling backwards.

The victim then bravely hit her attacker several times with the bag before he ran off.

Police said the victim was left traumatised but was not injured.

The attacker is described as being aged about 17, 5ft 2in tall and of slim build with dirty fair hair. He was wearing dark trousers and a bomber jacket.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
