Teenager accused of attempt to kill mum
A teenager has gone on trial accused of attempting to murder his mother.
A jury at Belfast Crown Court was told little more than that the 15-year-old, who cannot be named, confessed to having stabbed his mother in the early hours of June 17, 2012.
Prosecutor Kate McKay said the teen had raised the alarm himself, and that when police arrived he told officers: "I have just stabbed my mother."
After being cautioned by an officer, the boy from Belfast added: "I just lost it".
Ms McKay said the teenager also told officers that the knife he had used had broken, and that it was in the front bedroom.
His mother had two lacerations, one of which was a stab wound to the back of her shoulder which had collapsed her lung.
Ms McKay said it would be up to the jury to decide if he had attempted to kill his mother, and if so, did he intend to kill her.
The case continues today.
