Teenager charged over Derry crash which injured woman

A teenager has been charged over a crash which left a young woman injured in Londonderry.

The accident happened at around 10pm between the Gransha roundabout and the Maydown roundabout, on Wednesday. The vehicle involved was a silver Renault Clio.

The woman, aged in her 20s and who was a passenger in the car, sustained head and neck injuries and was taken to hospital where she remained on Thursday evening.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and later charged with a number of driving offences including causing grievous bodily injury by driving carelessly when unfit, causing grievous bodily injury by driving carelessly with excess alcohol and driving when unfit through drink or drug. He is expected to appear before Londonderry Magistrates Court on Friday.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Police have appealed for information.
