Teenager charged with attempted murder over early morning attack

An 18-year-old man has been charged with trying to murder a man during an early morning attack in Downpatrick.

He has been charged with attempted murder, common assault, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon following a serious assault in the Carraig View area in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

He is due to appear at Downpatrick Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

A 20-year-old man has been released unconditionally, while another man, aged 42, arrested in relation to the assault remains in police custody.
