Teenager left with 'horrific' injuries after Newtownards Eleventh night bonfire fight

Police are appealing for information after a teenager was left with "horrific" injuries following a fight at a Eleventh night bonfire.

The incident happened around 1am at the bonfire at the West Winds Estate in Newtownards.

Showing the extent of the young man's injuries in a post on Facebook, a police officer who attended the scene of the fight said: "We are seeking further witnesses to a serious assault which resulted in these horrific injuries.

"I arrived shortly after the incident myself and I know there were plenty of people in the area at the time. We have spoken to some folk but I know there must be more out there who are maybe reluctant to speak with us."

The officer said that independent councillor for Ards and North Down Borough Council, Jimmy Menagh would act as an intermediary for those reluctant to come forward.

The officer added: "On a personal note I want to thank some members of the community who assisted us in first aid prior to police bringing him to casualty."

Anyone with information can be contacted by calling 101 and request to speak with the Detectives in Bangor or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
