Teenager on trial for attempted murder of his father

By Staff Reporter

A teenager is to stand trial for the alleged attempted murder of his father. The charge relates to an incident dating back almost a year, since when he has been remanded in custody.

The youth, who cannot be identified due to his age, appeared before Magherafelt Magistrate's Court yesterday for a committal hearing.

Standing outside the dock, he was charged with attempting to murder his father on June 10, 2016.

He spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charge. A prosecution lawyer said based on the papers before the court there is a case to answer, which was supported by District Judge Una Mullan.

She remanded the youth in continuing custody to appear for arraignment at Londonderry Crown Court next month.
