Teenager put on probation for inciting sex acts

By Alan Erwin

A teenage who incited other boys at the same Belfast school to perform sex acts has been ordered to serve three years on probation.

The 19-year-old also showed porn videos on his mobile phone during sessions in a classroom store. The defendant, who cannot be named to protect the identities of his two younger victims, is to be put on the sex offenders' register for seven years as well.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of causing a child to watch a sex act, two charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and a further count of engaging in a sex act in front of a child.

All the offences were committed at the school between September and November last year. Belfast Magistrates Court heard how police were alerted after concerns were raised by a victim’s parents.

According to defence counsel Neil Rafferty, there was never any physical contact with either boy.

The defendant, who was accompanied to court by his parents, was described as intelligent, but with an immature personality.

Passing sentence, Judge Fiona Bagnall imposed a three-year probation order to cover all of the offences.
