Teenager rescued after falling into a quarry in Newtownards

A teenager had to rescued by fire crews in the early hours yesterday morning after he fell into a quarry near Quarry Heights in Newtownards.

Two appliances were sent to assist ambulance personnel retrieve the unconscious 16-year-old, who was lifted by fire crews to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment.

An NI Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Manual handling techniques were used to bring the unconscious youth across difficult terrain to the ambulance."
