Teenager ‘threatened to kill mum with knife’
A teenager brandished a knife at his own mother and threatened to kill her, the High Court has heard.
The woman was also dragged along the ground and pelted with plates, it was alleged.
Prosecutors said she feared her son, Daniel McShane, was going to stab her to death during an ordeal which ended with him allegedly threatening to commit suicide.
McShane, an 18-year-old student, faces charges of aggravated assault and threatening to kill his mother, being armed with an offensive weapon, and three counts of criminal damage.
Police were called to their home on Priory Road in Dungiven, Co Londonderry, on January 10.
McShane's barrister described his behaviour as “a complete aberration” brought on by too much alcohol.
The teenager was also said to be ashamed and embarrassed by the episode.
Lord Justice Girvan adjourned McShane’s bail application until a suitable address could be found for him.
