Teens with machete arrested over attempted taxi hijacking in Dunmurry

Police have arrested two teenagers after an attempt to force a taxi driver from his car in Dunmurry.

Shortly before 5am on Sunday the teenagers, aged 16 and 18, were picked up by the taxi in the Divis Street area of west Belfast.

The pair, one armed with a machete, tried to force the driver from the car in the Cutts area of Dunmurry.

They were arrested a short distance away and remain in custody this afternoon assisting police with their enquiries.

The machete has been recovered and has been seized for examination.
