Tesco thief stuffed three bottles of wine down trousers in 'atrocious attempt at shoplifting'
AN Indian man who admitted what his own solicitor describes as "the most atrocious attempt at shoplifting" he had ever seen has walked free from court with a year's conditional discharge.
Belfast Magistrates Court heard on Saturday how 43-year-old Parmjit Singh walked into a Tesco store on Royal Avenue on Friday and walked out after stuffing three bottles of wine down his trousers. Singh pleaded guilty to a singular charge of theft. Describing it as "the most atrocious attempt at shoplifting I have ever seen", Singh's solicitor revealed a tale of woe, telling the court how he had come seeking work last Monday but had been robbed of his identity documents, money and wallet.
Having heard how the wine, worth £15.97, was seized and that he has a clear criminal record, District Judge Ken Nixon handed Singh a 12-month conditional discharge.
