Thaw headache for water company

Northern Ireland Water is dealing with interruptions to supplies across Northern Ireland because of the thaw.

The main areas affected include Belfast, Dungannon, Omagh, Armagh, Newry, Derry and Craigavon.

Since the beginning of December, NIW has received more than 32,000 calls with over 14,000 received in the past five days. Extra call handlers have been brought in to deal with the increased call volume.

The company has repaired more than 400 bursts to water mains in December.

A spokesman said: "Our teams are on site and working as quickly as possible to repair these bursts and restore water supply to customers."
