St Anne's Cathedral will be all shook up as it hosts the king of rock 'n' roll tonight.

Multiple award-winning tribute artist Ciaran Houlihan will perform Elvis Presley's Christmas and gospel favourites in his The King at Christmas concert.

Ciaran has received numerous titles, including the Best Gospel Elvis accolade.

He will be singing a selection of the star's hits and promises to focus on his gospel tracks, and will be joined by his band, the Sweet Sensations.

Performances will include Oh Come All Ye Faithful, How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Ciaran said: "We have tailored the show due to the venue. I always do some gospel songs, but because it's in a cathedral we decided to dedicate the first half of the show to Gospel.

"I'm really looking forward to it. It will be my first time performing in a big Cathedral and I think it's a great way to pay tribute to Elvis.

"I have put in the extra effort in rehearsals because this show is going to be special."

Mr Houlihan has been impersonating Elvis for almost a decade in The Elvis Spectacular Show, but the gig started long before then.

Created by Mervin Boyd in 1996 almost 20 years after the death of rock 'n' roll's greatest icon, it has been entertaining fans from around the world for decades.

The creator and promoter was approached by St Anne's Cathedral about doing the show in the church, but decided that the venue called for the creation of a new Christmas concert.

Mr Boyd insisted that the new one would be just as brilliant as the Vegas live show.

He explained: "We don't use the words 'tribute act', what we do is a show. The Elvis Spectacular Show started 20 years ago and Ciaran has been with us for almost nine years. We have been all over Ireland and the UK with the show, but Ciaran has been doing his act over the world. He was recently in the USA. People just seem to love him."

In his bid to keep Elvis's music and memory in the public eye, Ciaran's blue suede shoes have taken him as far as the Oil Baron's Ball in Dallas, Texas.

The 37-year-old full-time impersonator has even been crowned Europe's official number one tribute artist.

The performer said: "I only started doing it about year before I joined Mervin's show, and it just took off.

"I was entering and winning competitions and getting booked for parties everywhere. I never thought it would be this big."

  • Tickets are £15 and are available in advance today from the Cathedral Welcome Desk or online at https://www.musicglue.com/belfast-cathedral. Tickets will also be available at the door tonight. The show starts at 7.30pm
