A Romanian man has admitted stealing a wallet from a man in Londonderry on the same night the victim's body was found between the City Walls and the Millennium Forum.

Adrian Vasile Aitoneanu (36), whose address was given as Selway Street, Rotherham, pleaded guilty at the Crown Court in Derry to robbing Conall Kerrigan of his wallet on August 23, 2015.

Mr Kerrigan (35) had just returned home from England to Claudy and had planned to set up his own plumbing business.

He had been out celebrating with friends on the night his body was found.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to stealing an iPhone 6, valued at £600, from a woman on the same night.

The pleas came as Aitoneanu was re-arraigned on the day of his trial.

He was released on continuing bail until his plea and sentence hearing takes place on January 7.

Judge Elizabeth McCaffrey ordered a pre-sentence report for that date.
