A security alert sparked at Thiepval Barracks in Lisburn has ended.

The Belsize Road was closed while police and army bomb experts examined a suspicious item within the complex.

The object was found to be nothing untoward.

A number of nearby residents were evacuated but are now returning to their homes.

It comes just hours after a bomb exploded under a van in east Belfast seriously injuring a prison officer.

Police have warned it is part of a dissident republican plot to kill security forces in the lead up to the Easter Rising centenary.
