Thieves steal copper boiler at Royal Victoria Hospital
Thieves have stolen a huge copper tank after driving on to a Royal Victoria Hospital site with a forklift truck.
The robbers are thought to have made off with the boiler at around 6am yesterday morning.
The hefty square tank - which measures 10ft x 5ft x 6ft - was situated at the Broadway Tower site, which provides accommodation for hospital staff as well as social housing.
Detectives believe the thieves used a forklift after breaking in to a property in a tower block which is not currently in use. A spokesman for the Belfast Trust said it could not comment on an active investigation.
But it asked anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
West Belfast MLA Fra McCann slammed the actions of the thieves as a "deplorable act".
The Sinn Fein Assembly Member said because the area was close to the Broadway roundabout and was a busy thoroughfare, he hoped CCTV coverage would help police to identify the culprits.
