Third arrest over stabbing in Belfast centre

A third man has been arrested after the attempted murder of a man in Belfast city centre on Tuesday evening.

Police received a report of an altercation in the Great Victoria Street area at around 6.20pm.

It was reported that a man, aged in his 20s, had been stabbed during the attack and sustained life-threatening injuries.

The man was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew before being taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital where he remained last night.

Two men were arrested at the time. Another was detained later.

Detective Inspector Michael McDonnell said: "Three men, aged 19, 24 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remain in custody, assisting police with their enquiries."

He appealed to anyone in the Great Victoria Street area between 6pm and 6.30pm and saw anything suspicious to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101, quoting reference number 1067 of 06/03/18.
