Thousands affected by power cut in Lisburn area

By Allan Preston

Lisburn was plunged into darkness last night after a power cut left 2,500 homes without electricity.

The power failure occurred at 8.42pm with homes and street lighting affected.

A spokesperson for NIE said the power cut was due to "equipment failure" on the electricity transmission network.

She added: "A NIE Networks' emergency repair team responded immediately and restored power to around 1,400 properties within half an hour and all but 21 customers by 10.47pm.

"The team worked into night to restore electricity supplies to the remaining customers."
