Thousands descended on scarva for the annual Sham fight on Saturday.

Organisers said they expected up to 100,000 for the re-enactment of the 1690 Battle of the Boyne.

King William and King James met at the top of the cultural field to act out the victory of 1690 - the only display of its kind in Northern Ireland.

The main protagonists were accompanied by horses and soldiers dressed in period costume, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.

William's victory in the battle may be a foregone conclusion, but nevertheless onlookers cheered on the spectacle.

Rev William Anderson, Sovereign Grand Master of the Royal Black Institution took to the platform at Scarva Demense calling for respect for one another.

"Without boundaries, without guidelines, without true respect for one another, then we become simply an ignorant self-centred tribe of people, that will turn upon itself," he told the crowd.

Rev Anderson said it was time politicians delivered a stable government for Northern Ireland.

"Too many today have conned the people into thinking that by pushing an agenda based on respect and equality that they can somehow or other deliver a utopia of perfectness," he said.

"We all know that it is not possible. We need to understand today that respect is something that is earned. It is neither in my power to give it or take it away. Respect comes from trust. Trust is built deep within us and can so easily be destroyed by what we experience.

"Democracy, where the majority have the final say, is the only way to govern our people. So, to our politicians, no more bluffing, no more utopias, just make the decision to deliver a stable and united government for the people so that all will be able to understand what is right and what is wrong as set out in God’s Word."
