Three arrested following cocaine bust

Three men have been arrested after £6,000 worth of cocaine was found by police in a house in the Braniel Estate on Friday.

The three men, two aged 33 and one aged 41, were arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply following the police's pro-active search of a house in Marlfield Drive.

A sum of cash and drugs paraphernalia was also seized and a number of follow up searches were also carried out. The men have been released this week.

Robin Newton East Belfast DUP MLA, a member of the Policing Board, said: "There are concerns that recently the PSNI had taken their eye off this particular problem; however this seizure is very encouraging.

"I congratulate the PSNI in taking this cocaine off the streets. Removing the drugs from circulation protects our young people and makes our community safer."

Area Commander for Castlereagh, Chief Inspector Derek Martin said: "There can be no place for illegal drugs in our communities and the seizure of these suspected drugs on Friday evening is an indication of our commitment to removing drugs from circulation."

Anyone with information relating to drugs is urged to contact police at 0845 600 8000.
