Three arrested over attempted murder of police officer

Three men have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a police officer in 2007.

The suspects - aged 36, 37 and 41 - were arrested in Co Antrim on Wednesday morning over the shooting of an officer in Dungannon.

The police officer had just left Dungannon station on November 12, 2007 after finishing work and was travelling along the Circular Road at around 5.30pm.

He stopped at traffic lights outside the chapel when a gunman fired a number of shots and seriously injured him.

The officer managed to drive back to the station where he crashed into the front gates before receiving medical help from colleagues.
