Three escape arson attack in Belfast - shoppers shaken after man pours petrol around shop
Three people were left badly shaken after a man walked into a shop in broad daylight and set it alight.
The incident occurred at premises in the Donegall Street area of Belfast yesterday.
At approximately 12.50pm, police received a report that a man had entered the shop, poured a flammable substance and set it alight.
The suspect then made off on foot along Donegall Street.
Three people were in the store at the time - none were injured, but police said they were all left very badly shaken.
Firefighters were called and put out the blaze.
Detective Sergeant Keith Wilson said: "It is believed this man purchased petrol from a filling station on Clifton Street before making his way to Donegall Street."
He urged witnesses to contact detectives at Musgrave Criminal Investigation Branch on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 540 23/02/18.
