Three held after £1m drugs seizure

Police have arrested three men after seizing drugs worth around £1 million.

The men - aged 51, 27 and 25 - were detained in Belfast when a lorry and two cars where stopped and searched.

Some 60 kilos of cannabis, 50,000 ecstasy tablets as well as cocaine and amphetamines were recovered at the scene and during follow up searches in Belfast, Co Antrim and Co Armagh.

A large amount of cash was also seized.

Detective Chief Superintendent Roy McComb, Head of the Police Service of Northern Ireland Organised Crime Branch, said the find had taken a large quantity of dangerous drugs off the street at the height of the Christmas party season.

"The sad reality is that these dangerous illegal drugs kill, they ruin lives and destroy communities," he said.

"I have no doubt that lives have been saved as a result of today's major, successful seizure of suspected illegal drugs."
