A man had to be cut from his car following a multi-vehicle crash near Coleraine yesterday.

The crash, involving a Smart car and two vans, happened on the Dunhill Road which is the main Coleraine to Limavady road.

The driver of the Smart car was injured while the passenger of one of the vans had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Witnesses said the car and a van were both struck by the third vehicle, another van.

A spokeswoman for the Northern Health Trust confirmed three people involved in the collision were stable in the Causeway hospital in Coleraine.

She said one of the patients was expected to be transferred to Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry for further treatment.

Meanwhile, in Newtownards, two cars collided at Ballyblack Road East, while on the M22, near Randalstown, police attended the scene of another crash, involving a single vehicle.

The accident happened on the M22 at its junction with Moneynick Road just before 5pm.
