Three men held over raid and hijack bid

By Colin Francis

Detectives in Dungannon have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and two other men aged 32 and 40 on suspicion of attempted hijacking and robbery.

The arrests follow an incident in the Brackaville Road area at around 3.35pm yesterday when it was reported that two men, one of whom was armed with a hammer and a crowbar, entered a shop and threatened staff before making off with a sum of money.

The two men joined a third man in a black Toyota MR2 car and made off from the area. No staff members were injured.

The 28-year-old was located and arrested in the Dungannon Road area of Cookstown a short time later.

The other men were arrested in the Annahavil Road area of Dungannon following a report of two men attempting to hijack a passing car.

All three men are in custody and police are appealing for witnesses.
