Three people on stricken boat towed to safety by RNLI
The Donaghadee RNLI lifeboat put to sea yesterday to rescue a 14-metre catamaran with three people on board.
RNLI crew pagers were alerted just after 2pm when the lifeboat Saxon was requested to launch to assist the stranded vessel around eight miles north-east of the Co Down town.
It was reporting one defective engine and intermittent power from its second.
The visibility was very good, with a light northerly wind enabling the lifeboat to make good speed and be alongside the stricken vessel within 20 minutes of launching.
The Saxon crew found the vessel had prepared a bridle for tow and the catamaran was brought to the safety of Bangor Harbour.
