Three security alerts in Belfast

Three security alerts hit commuters at rush hour on Monday morning and led to Belfast residents being evacuated from their homes.

The M1 motorway between Belfast and Lisburn was shut in both directions due to a suspicious object on the the offslip at Kennedy Way in west Belfast.

The Army examined the device but it is not yet known if it was a hoax.

The M1 has now reopened in both directions however the Belfast bound offslip at Kennedy Way remains closed.

Police are also in attendance at a security alert in the Brae Hill Link area of North Belfast.

Brae Hill Link has been closed to traffic and a number of homes in the area have been evacuated. Bomb disposal experts have been tasked.

And police are currently in attendance at a security alert in the Old Brewery Lane area of West Belfast following the discovery of a suspicious object.

Old Brewery Lane has been closed to traffic.
