Thug jailed after biting off part of man's ear

By John Cassidy

A man who bit three people in two incidents has been jailed for six years after a judge found him to be a danger to the public.

Sean Patrick Dreelan (25) punched and bit two off-licence workers after they refused to serve him on the Antrim Road in 2012. He also attempted to hit a police officer who tried to arrest him

The defendant was released on bail two weeks later but then bit part of a man's ear off during a fight at a house party.

At Belfast Crown Court, Dreelan pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm, actual bodily harm and criminal damage.

A prosecution lawyer said the defendant had returned too the off-licence "out of vengeance".

He added: "He assaulted both his victims (the shop workers) and bit each of them.

"He threw bottles around the store and damaged stock and a fridge, causing £1,000 worth of damage.''

As well as the bites, one of the victims suffered cuts to his eye, and the other a fractured wrist.

Jailing Dreelan, Belfast Recorder Judge David McFarland said he was a dangerous man.
