A man has escaped injury after a petrol bomb was thrown through the front window of his house.

The PSNI said the incident occurred on Alexander Avenue in Armagh at around 12.45am yesterday.

A brick was used to smash the front window of the house before the petrol bomb was thrown inside.

It started a fire, although it only caused scorch damage to the room, police said.

The man, who was in the house on his own, managed to put the blaze out, police added in a statement.

A number of men dressed in dark clothing were seen running from the area.

The PSNI added: "There were no reports of any injuries.
