Time to get tough on thugs who attack our 999 crews
Once again there are shocking headlines about members of the emergency services being attacked while helping those in medical need and also dealing with a serious fire.
There were attacks on paramedics and police in west Belfast on Saturday night, and in Ballymena a firefighter was pelted with bricks and bottles.
Some of the attackers were as young as 12, and a senior fire officer has urged parents to be aware of what their children are doing. Parents should be doing this all of the time.
It is impossible to get inside the minds of those involved, but the authorities may need tougher laws to deal with such thuggery.
