Top civil servant to be keynote speaker at £200 a head conference
One of Northern Ireland's top civil servants is set to be the keynote speaker at a conference costing attendees upwards of £200.
Head of Energy at the Department for the Economy Richard Rodgers will be the keynote speaker at the 'Future Options: Developing the Energy Vision for 2050' event on September 11 at Titanic Belfast.
Mr Rodgers will not be paid for taking part in the event which is being held to carry out engagement with stakeholders in the development of the new draft Northern Ireland Energy Strategy.
Standard rate tickets for the event cost £195 with an added £39 VAT, while the public sector and charity rate costs £165 and £33 VAT.
Early bird rates that were on offer for the event have since ended.
"With participation from senior officials from across the NI Civil Service, industry leaders and politicians this event promises an unparalleled opportunity to inform government thinking," a preview of the event read.
Other speakers at the event include Jenny Pyper, Chief Executive at the Utility Regulator and Charlie Simpson from KPMG UK.
MLAs from the DUP, Sinn Fein, UUP, SDLP and Alliance Party will also address the conference.
A spokesperson for the Department for the Economy said that the event would help engagement around the new energy strategy.
“The department is committed to carrying out extensive engagement with stakeholders in the development of the new draft Northern Ireland Energy Strategy," the spokesperson said.
"This has and will include meeting key organisations, taking part in public discussions and consultations.
"Richard Rodgers will not receive payment to take part in this event, which is part of continued stakeholder engagement.”
