A Tory MP has called on a Cabinet minister to "have a word" with Philip Hammond and persuade him to change his mind about not flying the rainbow flag for gay pride at the Foreign Office and embassies around the world.

Nigel Evans asked Commons Leader Chris Grayling to speak to the Foreign Secretary about his refusal to allow the flag to be flown during pride week and his insistence on only flying the Union flag and national flags.

Flying the rainbow flag would send a signal that Britain stands on the side of oppressed lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people around the world, Mr Evans said.
