Tot murder accused protests his innocence
A man accused of sexually abusing and murdering baby Millie Martin in Enniskillen claims he is “totally innocent”.
Barry McCarney also told a preliminary inquiry at Fermanagh Magistrates Court he was “deeply saddened” at the child’s death.
McCarney is charged with sexually abusing the little girl between December 8 and 11, 2009, and then allegedly killing her.
He faces a further three charges including murder, unlawful death and grievous bodily harm.
At the time of 15-month-old Millie’s death McCarney had been living with her 26-year-old mother, Rachel Martin, at Glebe Park in |Enniskillen.
Martin appeared before the same preliminary inquiry charged with failing to protect her daughter and wilfully neglecting her in a manner likely to cause her unnecessary suffering.
A defence lawyer told the court McCarney “completely denies all allegations of wrong-doing”.
Martin’s defence lawyer made a similar submission, saying she “absolutely denies the allegations”.
