A man has died after he was hit by a train in Lurgan.

It happened at the William Street crossing at around 8.30pm.

Police and the Fire Service attended the scene.

The Ambulance Service said they responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a train and a crew was sent to the scene.

The William Street crossing has now reopened.

As well as local services, the train line handles the main Belfast to Dublin service.

Sinn Fein MLA John O'Dowd offered his condolences. He said it was unconnected to an earlier incident.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the deceased’s family as well as the railway staff caught up in the tragedy."
