Tragedy as man is killed on Ballymena railway line

A community has been plunged into shock after a death on the railway line into Ballymena.

Emergency services attended the scene between Cullybackey and Ballymena yesterday morning.

No details of the victim have been released. The train involved was the 9.33am service from Londonderry to Belfast.

A statement by operator Translink said: "We can confirm a man has died on the railway line near Ballymena this morning. The line was closed as a result but has now reopened."

DUP Assembly candidate Phillip Logan said: "This is very sad news for our community as today a family will be mourning the loss of a loved one in such tragic circumstances.

"I want to express my deepest sympathies to those involved.

"My thoughts and prayers are with them today and all those impacted by this news."
