Translink is continuing to discount fares into the New year to support Belfast's recovery after the devastating Primark fire.

Business in the city was left decimated after the fire at Bank Buildings in August which forced the closure of 14 businesses and impacted footfall at dozens of others around the safety cordon needed after concern the building could collapse.

Since the fire millions have been pledged to support the city with a marketing campaign launched in a bid to encourage people back into the city.

And Translink discounted fares to support the drive and will continue to do so into January.

New Year discount fares include:

  • A £5 ‘Family & Friends’ ticket providing unlimited all day travel for up to 2 adults and 4 children across the entire Metro and Glider system from January 1 - 31
  • An Ulsterbus & Goldline day return ticket for the price of a single ticket after 9.30am from January 1 – 31; and
  • A third-off NI Railways day return tickets anytime on Saturdays and Sundays from January 5 – 27.

Translink Group chief executive Chris Conway added: "We’re pleased to kick-start 2019 with a range of great value fares and encourage more people to choose public transport for their New Year journeys.

“We want to continue supporting Belfast’s recovery and help local traders by attracting as many people as possible into the city centre to enjoy the fantastic shopping and hospitality on offer.

“Following a busy Christmas period, we’re looking forward to welcoming all our customers on board public transport with this New Year discount travel package."
