Tributes as Cookstown crash victim Grant Archer (23) laid to rest

A young man killed in a horror car crash near Cookstown at the weekend was "a good and thoughtful friend", mourners at his funeral heard yesterday.

Grant Archer and his friend Robert Wilkinson died in the accident in the early hours of Mother's Day.

Mr Archer (23), who was from Newmills, was buried following a service at Brackaville Parish Church.

Addressing mourners, Rev Andrew Rawding referred to Mr Archer's passion for cars and motorbikes.

"His father Philip is a well-known motorcycle racer.

"Grant was passionate about motorbikes.

"He looked up to his dad and wanted one day to race bikes like him – he had his dad's motorbike trophies in his room," he said.

After the service Mr Archer was buried in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr Wilkinson (28) was buried in Cookstown following a separate service in the town.
