Tributes as top rally driver Neil McCance loses cancer fight

Tributes have been paid to "the gentleman of rallying", Neil McCance, after he lost his long battle with cancer aged just 46.

The Belfast steel company director from Comber was a former Irish Mitsubishi Challenge champion with many other successes, including outright wins on the Carlow and Raven's Rock rallies.

He is survived by his parents, wife Tanya, and their two children Mark and Melissa.

Phillip Morrow, a former Mitsubishi UK team driver from Lisburn, said Neil was a "great guy" and someone who was "good fun to be around".

He added: "He was a gentleman of rallying. It was a pleasure to have rallied alongside him as he was such a happy and funny guy. He will be deeply missed by so many."

Current Irish champion Garry Jennings from Kesh said: "I always found Neil to be a very pleasant person.

"He always had a smile on his face."
