By Staff Reporter

A 29-year-old man has died suddenly in Portadown. He died in what locals described as tragic circumstances in the Hartfield Avenue area of the town yesterday afternoon.

He was named locally as Alan McCreery, a former Craigavon Senior High School pupil.

Police said last night that they were not treating his death as suspicious.

Upper Bann UUP MLA Doug Beattie described Mr McCreery's death as "a tragedy".

He said: "My condolences go to Mr McCreery's family and friends.

"He and his family should be allowed some dignity at this dreadful time for them."

Local UUP councillor Julie Flaherty said: "This is another young person from the town who has lost their life and a family that has been left grieving.

"My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the man's family." Friends took to social media to share their grief at the news of Mr McCreery's death.

Sam Dickson wrote: "Yet another sad day for Corcrain-Redmanville: another life taken. God bless Alan McCreery and God bless your family. Sad day."

Jayne Stewart posted: "So sad at such a young age. Heartbreaking."

Another friend, Andy Rowland, said: "Can't believe it. McCreery was a good lad. RIP bro."
