Tributes have flooded in for a well-known west Belfast priest following his funeral yesterday.

Fr Aidan Denny passed away at the Royal Victoria Hospital on Saturday after a short illness.

Requiem Mass for the 88-year-old took place at noon yesterday at Corpus Christi Church followed by burial at Milltown Cemetery.

The priest officially retired in 1995 but had continued to assist as curate in Corpus Christi parish. Parishioners took to social media to express their condolences at his passing.

One said: "A wee gentle soul. A great loss to our community. Rest in peace Father Denny."

Speaking of their long friendship another commented: "Thank you for everything; since I was a child in Turf Lodge and until last week [when] I helped you to your car and gave you a hug. You were an amazing man."

Another parishioner said: "Absolutely loved working with Fr Denny as an altar server. He was so kind and gentle."
