Trio charged over blackmail plot

By Michael Donnelly

Three men from Belfast have been charged with blackmailing a businessman out of more than £12,000 a year ago.

The trio, Christopher Joseph Nottarantonio of Avoca Close, William Barker of Filbert Drive, both aged 39, and 35-year-old John Patrick Clarke of Ardglen Place, deny making an unwarranted demand from ‘Witness A’ with menaces.

No details of the blackmail plot, allegedly committed between September 16 and 24 last year, or of the identity of the victim, were given to the Belfast Recorder, Judge Tom Burgess.

The trial of the three, who were freed on continuing bail, has been fixed for April of next year. However, there is a possibility the case will be heard earlier.

The judge said he would review the matter in December.
