People waiting to be seen at a Northern Ireland hospital emergency department have been told to "consider other options", following an influx of patients.

The announcement was made by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust regarding the Ulster Hospital on Monday.

In a tweet, a spokesperson said: "Ulster Hospital ED is extremely busy and some patients may have to wait.

"Our staff are working very hard to ensure everyone receives safe and quality care. Please consider other options if appropriate."
