TV's Nuala McKeever and Lynda Bryans to take part in Aware NI's first ever Mood Walk
Comic Nuala McKeever and presenter Lynda Bryans are two of over 100 people signed up to take part in Aware NI's first ever 5k or 10k charity walk.
Both women have previously spoken out about their own personal battle with depression and suicidal thoughts and are keen to help raise awareness for mental illness.
Nuala spoke to the Belfast Telegraph about how receiving counselling was her turning point: "I'm not ashamed to admit that I needed counselling. It saved me. I think we all hide behind things and put up a front for fear of telling people the truth and letting others see how we really feel, but what does that achieve?"
The money raised from the Mood Walk will help to support Aware’s services and education programmes to help people affected by depression and increase understanding about mental illness.
Mood Walk begins and ends at Mary Peter’s track in south Belfast on Friday 12 June from 6.30pm. The charity is aiming to raise £7,500 from the June walk and hopes to make it an annual event.
Teresa Sloan of Aware said, “I would encourage anyone who is interested in walking or in raising awareness about mental health and depression, to sign up for Mood Walk today. You will be making a real and positive difference to the lives of people affected by depression across Northern Ireland.”
