Twelfth 2016 Ballymena: Past Grand Master Bain turns out to huge parade

Ballymena is the only town in Northern Ireland that hosts a Twelfth parade every year, and yesterday more than 30 lodges and accompanying bands took part in the big day.

The parade started out at Wakehurst Road, and the crowds lining the streets watched as the bands made their way to the People's Park on the Doury Road.

This year, the honour of hosting the parade belonged to the members of St Patrick's Church Temperance LOL 1123.

The lodge is synonymous with organising the annual St Patrick's commemoration parade and church service in the town.

There is always a strong Scottish presence in Ballymena for the Twelfth and this year the Past Grand Master of Scotland, Magnus Bain, was the guest speaker.

Among the platform party was the Co Antrim Grand Master Robin Matthews, district officers and officers from the host lodge. The religious service was conducted by Rev Ian McClean, a Grand Chaplain of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland.
