Twelfth 2016 Maguiresbridge: Lodges from Republic make trip to the north

This year's Twelfth celebrations in Co Fermanagh were held in the village of Maguiresbridge, with a special commemoration of the Battle of the Somme.

The parade was headed by marchers dressed in period costume from the First World War.

Renowned for its relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere, the Fermanagh Twelfth also played host to visiting lodges from the Republic representing Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan.

Three newly formed Junior lodges were also at their first Twelfth, including young boys and girls from Ballinamallard and south Fermanagh.

Also among the lodges was Ballindarragh LOL 689, who won the Best New Banner Award at this year's Orange Community Awards. The banner includes an artistic portrayal of an Ulster Defence Regiment patrol coming under attack from IRA terrorists near Ballagh Cross in 1974.

The platform proceedings were chaired by the most senior Orangeman in the county, Fermanagh County Grand Master Stuart Brooker, while the guest speaker was Abraham Storey, County Cavan Grand Chaplain.
