Two accused of burglary which led to dog's death

By Staff Reporter

Two Draperstown men have been committed for trial in relation to an alleged burglary in which a dog was killed.

Appearing before Magherafelt Magistrates Court were Brian McEldowney (55) of Five Mile Straight and Gerald McEldowney (37) of Cloane Road.

It is alleged Brian McEldowney entered a shed as a trespasser on March 21, 2016, while armed with a gun and destroyed a dog.

His co-accused is charged with assisting an offender by removing the destroyed dog after the alleged offence was committed.

A prosecution lawyer told the court there is a case to answer, and nothing contrary was put forward by the defence.

Neither accused objected to the proceedings, and chose not to call witnesses to give evidence on their own behalf during the short hearing.

Both men were remanded on £500 bail each and ordered to appear for arraignment at Derry Crown Court sitting on September 21.
