Two held after police find £60,000 worth of cannabis in Co Down

By Sara Neill

Two men have been arrested after police seized £60,000 worth of cannabis in Co Down.

Detectives uncovered the drugs when they carried out a planned raid at a house in Millisle on Friday.

A 54-year-old man has been charged with possession of Class B drugs and intent to supply.

A 39-year-old man held at the same time has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Detective Inspector Alan Pyper said: "The misery drugs cause to communities, to families and to those who get involved in drugs cannot be measured.

"We will continue to disrupt and arrest those involved in the sale and supply of drugs in an effort to bring these individuals before the courts."

Police say the discovery is not connected to a major drugs factory found in the town on the same day, when 800 cannabis plants were found at a workshop.

The haul is thought to have a street value of around £400,000 and officers described it as one of the biggest, and most sophisticated operations they had uncovered recently.
