Two held over attack on home of DUP man George Duddy

By Staff Reporter

Two men have been arrested after the home of a DUP mayor was vandalised with sectarian graffiti.

Slogans referencing recent controversial remarks by DUP MP Gregory Campbell about the Irish language was daubed on a wall at the home of party colleague George Duddy, mayor of Coleraine.

'Curry My Yougrt (sic), Oil My AK-47' was scrawled at his property on the outskirts of the town on Sunday. It was the fourth attack on his home in the past year.

Chief Inspector Nicky Thompson said the men, aged 26 and 37, had been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and were yesterday taken into custody to help police with their enquiries.

The PSNI said a number of properties were being searched as part of the ongoing investigation and a number of items had been taken away for further examination.

Police have been treating the incident as a hate crime.
