Two held over Newtownhamilton robbery

Two men have been arrested after an armed robbery, the first of two at the weekend.

At around 2.15pm on Saturday a woman in the Dundalk Street area of Newtownhamilton was walking past a parked blue car when one of three men inside it asked for assistance.

She was threatened with a suspected firearm and told to hand over money.

She did, and the car made off in the direction of Armagh.

Detectives in Newry later arrested two men aged 30 and 44 on suspicion of armed robbery. They were in custody last night helping police with inquiries.

Meanwhile, detectives in Portadown are appealing for information after an armed robbery in Little West Street yesterday.

Around midday a man was threatened by three men.

One, armed with a knife and about 20 years old, wore a blue jacket, a grey hat and blue jeans. Another was described as the same age, with a gold hoop in his eyebrow, wearing a red Man United hooded top and red hat.

They made off on foot with money and other items.
