Two hospitalised after baseball bat gang break into Newtownabbey property

Two men have been hospitalised after an attack by three men wielding baseball bats at a property in Newtownabbey.

The incident happened in the Clonmore Walk area of the town on Saturday night at around 8.30pm.

Three men wielding baseball bats smashed the front windows of a house and forced entry.

Two men in their 50s were inside the property.

One sustained cuts to the back of his head, while the other sustained a cut to the top of his head and a suspected broken arm.

Both men were treated in hospital for their injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Sergeant Crothers said: “We are appealing for anyone with information that could be useful to our investigation or anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area around 8-8.30pm last night to contact detectives at Antrim police station on 101 quoting reference number 1279 of 06/01/18.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
